What exactly is an ovarian cyst?

An ovarian cyst is a sac filled with fluid that develops in an ovary. Most ovarian cysts are non-cancerous and have no symptoms. “Cyst” is a term used for a structure that is filled with fluid and which may or may not represent a tumour.
