Schedule a prepregnancy visit with an obstetrician since  – “A healthy pregnancy begins with a healthy woman

Things to do:

  • Schedule a pre pregnancy visit with your doctor.
  • Take folic acid tablets before you get pregnant until 12 weeks of pregnancy.
  • Take vitamin D supplements when you become pregnant.
  • Have a blood test to check if you are immune against rubella, and to screen for hepatitis B, syphilis, and HIV. Also check for Thyroid disorder, Diabetes and Anemia.
  • Eat a healthy diet. Include foods rich in iron, calcium and folic acid.
  • Give up Smoking and Alcohol .
  • Be strict about food hygiene. Do not eat raw or undercooked(rare) meat/ poultry / eggs. Wash salads and vegetables well.
  • Review your vaccination status & medications with your doctor. Be informed about vaccines / medicines that are safe in pregnancy.
